McMaster Children’s Hospital
McMaster University Medical Centre (MUMC) transformed into a Specialized Women and Children’s Hospital/Adult GI Centre – April 1, 2011 The Centre for Child and Youth Digestive Health is part of that transformation
McMaster Emergency Department changed to focus on Children and Youth (anyone under age 18) on April 4th. This means all the Emergency Room doctors and nurses in the ER have chosen to work with children, teens and their families! The newly built Children’s Emergency Department will open next fall.
The New Adult/Pediatric Endoscopy Unit Centre opens in September 2011 on the hospital’s 4th floor. Patients value that general anaesthesia has been available to all patients under 18 undergoing gastrointestinal endoscopy since October 2010
New Staff – Dr. Mary Sherlock MD, MRCP joins the Pediatric GI Team at McMaster Children’s Hospital July 1, 2011. Originally from Ireland, Dr. Sherlock completed her Pediatric GI Training at Toronto’s Hospital for Sick Children and is finishing her PhD in Epidemiology and Biostatistics with a special interest in Inflammatory Bowel Disease
Transitions – Dr. Elyanne Ratcliffe gave birth to a beautiful baby daughter and is presently on maternity leave. Dr. Mary Zachos is running the Feeding and Swallowing (FAST) team until late fall. Dietitian Heather Milewski has returned top the CCYDH team to job share with Joanne Saab. Child Life Worker Laura Perkins returns to CCYDH while Shannon Nelson is on maternity leave.
Kids Dig Health Program
The KIDS DIG HEALTH PROGRAM is a research and education program for children and youth and their families and the Professionals that care for them. KIDS DIG HEALTH offers timely information and education about nutrition, healthy active living and chronic GI diseases.

MERCK Canada has donated $10,000 to the CCYDH to support development of a IBD Transition Program and data base
